"The sessions have had a positive effect on my physical and mental well-being"

This year Lincoln City Foundation was proud to launch Team Talk, their pledge to help tackle male mental health in Lincolnshire. With funding from Shine Lincolnshire, Lincoln County Council and NHS Lincolnshire CCG, we were able to provide regular free sessions to help men that needed a little support with their mental health.

Partnering with Andy’s Man Club we provide a regular peer to peer support session on a Monday evening. This is a 2-hour session aimed at encouraging men to talk to other like-minded men and support each other. It is a hugely successful session that has grown from strength to strength this year. Andy’s Man Club are excellent at what they do, with 69 clubs nationwide, we are proud to be able to give them a platform to do what they do best.

Alongside the support group, we also run an after-work kick-about, designed to give men the opportunity to socialise with other men, over a game of football. Being physically active has a huge impact on your wellbeing, as an anonymous participant has found.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lincoln City Foundation. A few years ago I suffered a nervous/ mental break down losing all my self-confidence and becoming very recluse, distancing myself from all my friends and family.

Through joining the sessions run by the Foundation I have re-found a love for football. Even though I am now very unfit I go home after each session buzzing, benefiting both physically and mentally from the sessions. I believe the sessions have had a positive effect on my physical and mental well-being and had a knock-on effect on my personal life as well, beginning to help to rebuild my relationships with my family and friends, through the sense of well-being, happiness, and achievement that the sessions have provided.

I would like once again give a big thank you.”

Sometimes we all need a little support.

In 2018 Lincolnshire, recorded a record number of suicides across the county with a similar majority as the national average. Team Talk is Lincoln City Foundation’s Mental Health programme for men aged over 18. We are utilising our brand and working with fellow Lincolnshire sports partners to tackle this important issue by providing a safe space, giving hope, and breaking down those barriers that prevent men from asking for help. The ambition is that through investment and fundraising support, we can reach individuals all over Lincolnshire. This might include students, young professionals in high pressured environments, construction staff and those working in agriculture, divorced or separated men and males looking for peer-to-peer support after retiring from their career.

We are here to help you when you are ready. Do not struggle alone.
