Foundation select London Marathon representative

Gary Hutchinson has been selected to represent the Foundation in next year’s London Marathon.

The charity successfully secured a spot in the iconic race for the first time in its history, with applications open to the public to apply with the commitment of raising £2,000 for the Foundation.

This comes during the EFL Week of Action as, alongside the other 71 clubs in the EFL, City's Foundation highlight the impact they have on the Lincolnshire community.

He said: “It’s an incredible honour to be the individual selected to run for the charity, and that’s a lot of trust placed in me.

“On those cold runs in the middle of January when the sunny spring days seem ages away, the thought of the endgame and the people at the Foundation will spur me on and keep me focused.”

Hutchinson is a life-long Imps supporter and has admired the work of the Foundation for many years.

He added: “I love supporting the Foundation, and I love being able to use what profile the Stacey West page has for good.

“The opportunity came up and as a runner I was looking for a challenge and to be able to support the work the charity does and undertake that personal challenge at the same time was a no-brainer.”

Foundation CEO Martin Hickerton was thrilled to announce Gary’s involvement - believing it to be a big opportunity for the Foundation.

Hickerton said: “It’s an amazing opportunity for us, we’ve had 10k spaces before, we’ve been involved in the half-marathon - but this is a significant step up. The fundraising potential from the London Marathon is incredible, we’re just really grateful to have our first ever spot.

“Fundraising is essential for what we do. We have 30+ staff now, but volunteers help make us a much better delivery outfit. If it wasn’t for fundraising last year we wouldn’t have broken even, it’s as simple as that - so anything we receive we’re very grateful for and we put to good use.”
