Can you support Lincolnshire Children to 'Rethink Food'?

Lincoln City Foundation have partnered up with Rethink Food to launch a fantastic initiative for our local primary schools – The RETHINK FOOD FUTURES programme.

Rethink Food futures is an alternative method of food production, and at the heart of our food programme is a Tower Garden which enables schools, organisations, and businesses to grow food year-round.

The project aims to install 17 Tower Gardens in 17 local primary schools. This is used to help teach UN Sustainable Development Goals alongside a growing programme. Children can plant seeds into the tower garden and watch the plants grow, learning all about plants as well as sustainable food and healthy eating choices.

There is less hassle and clean up because it doesn’t use soil and you can wheel the tower garden from the classroom to the playground. Thanks to the smart technology in the Tower Garden, children can grow and eat a variety of different produce all year round. It increases yields by as much as 30% and triples the speed of growth while using only 10% of the water and space.

We need £2000 of investment per Tower Garden, to get this amazing project into a school. For your support, you will receive your branding on the Tower Garden, which is accessed across the school, PR from both ourselves and the school and the opportunity to make a big difference in your local community.

According to the Food Foundation, over half of adults are overweight and obese, 5% have diabetes and one-third of 5-year olds have tooth decay and rates are still increasing. They also note that the poorest 10% of households only purchase 3.2 portions of fruit and vegetables per day and that highly processed foods which can be damaging to health make up over half the diet of typical families.

Your support will help to tackle these statistics and make sure children in Lincolnshire grow up learning about healthy eating while having access to fruit and vegetables throughout the week.
