Our Mission

The aim of Lincoln City Foundation Higher Education and the University of South Wales is to help young people maximise their potential in football, education and life. It puts well-being and personal development at the heart of everything we do. Our aim is to develop well-rounded individuals as well as high-quality coaches. We will provide expert services, support and advice to students.   

Our Vision

We want our students to be technically excellent and tactically astute independent decision-makers on and off the field, equipped to be successful in the game of life!  

Education

All students will study towards a Foundation Degree in Community Football Coaching and Development for 2 years, with an optional 3rd year to top the qualification up to a BSc. The method of delivery is blended learning, your lectures will be a mixture of theory and practical sessions in order to deliver course content. The qualification is split into units, which are assessed through written reports, presentations, discussions, case studies, workbooks and practical assessments. There are a variety of units that will be studied across the two years including:  

  •  Football Event Management

  • Academic Research and Professional Skills

  • Introduction to Sports Development

  • Introduction to Sports Science for Football

  • Football Coaching: Theory to Practice 

  • Technical Planning and Reflective Practice in Football 

  • Football In Society

  • Project Operations Management

  • Youth Football Coaching

  • PE and School Sport

  • Sport Placement

In year 3 (top-up), the core units cover:

  •  Business of Football

  •  Critical Issues in Sports Coaching

  • Strategic Sports Development

  •  Community Football Coaching

  •  Applied Professional Project (which provides an exciting opportunity to embark on an internship with the Foundation)

 

Alongside your studies, you will also be able to complete an FA Level 2 coaching qualification and engage in a tutorial programme to develop your life skills and practical abilities.

Education is hugely important, and this aspect of the programme will help students achieve a productive and fulfilling career in sport, both on and off the field. Students offered a place on the programme, will receive both football coaching and education programmes through Lincoln City Foundation and the University of South Wales. All students will study towards a Foundation Degree in Community Football Coaching and Development for 2 years, with an optional 3rd year to top the qualification up to a BSc. Via blended learning methods, you will benefit from the expertise of highly qualified teachers on-site at Lincoln City Foundation and via virtual means with lecturers from the University of South Wales. Twice per academic year, you will be able to visit the University of South Wales for inductions and assessments.

Football Coaching

Students will have the opportunity to coach a variety of sessions for Lincoln City Foundation as part of the community team and as a sessional coach.

 

To provide students with the best opportunity to succeed, 10 hours of football coaching will be incorporated into the timetable in year 1, and 8 hours into the timetable in year 2.
