Volunteering: "My confidence has increased loads and I feel so welcome being part of the team."

Updated: Jan 31, 2022

Tyler began volunteering with us during our October half term Holiday Club and immediately got stuck in, embracing the challenge of each day, and supporting coaches with their delivery throughout the day. Tyler was a great asset during the week – he supported smaller groups of children and joined in with each activity, demonstrating his keen football skills. Tyler was eager to continue volunteering and began joining in with our After School Club provision for 3 days a week.

In December, Tyler was successful with his application for a Kickstart Assistant Community Coach position with us too – meaning he could continue his personal and professional development through our After School Clubs, Holiday Clubs and Football Development programmes. Tyler has begun to develop great relationships with not only the staff he works alongside but also the children he supports through our programmes and he is a key part of Team Foundation now.

Tyler said,

“When I started my first day in October, I was very nervous and my anxiety was all over the place. But during Holiday Club volunteering I got more and more confident, everyone treating me with such respect, I felt welcome.
Now being a staff member and no longer a volunteer, my confidence has increased loads and I feel so welcome being part of the team. I’m going to work as best to my ability to stay and gain more experience and help a lot with my anxiety talking to new people and meeting more staff.”
