Lincoln City Foundation have been working with Tennyson Wharf for over a year delivering seated activities fortnightly to the residents as well as Sporting Memories sessions with current and former players of Lincoln City Football Club. These sessions are especially successful as they enable us to reach as many residents as possible.
On Monday we were lucky enough to be able to take the Sky Bet League 2 Trophy with us to their activity session to enable the residents and staff to see, hold and have pictures with it. It was amazing to see the reactions of the residents and helping them feel part of the Lincoln City community even if they can’t attend matches anymore. Many of them weren’t football fans but were blown away with the occasion and being able to hold something so precious.
Our activity sessions are inclusive of all residents which allows anyone to come and join in and take part successfully. The sessions are fun and have a slight competitive edge which is always well received. We do all sorts of activities which incorporate different targets, hoops and coloured spots. We use a variety different coloured balls which are different sizes, textures, shapes and need different techniques to complete the task.
We also play Boccia, ten pin bowling, New Age Kurling and card games. All sessions help with the resident’s hand eye coordination, grip strength, accuracy, throwing techniques and strength as well as helping social skills, communication and comradery between the residents that take part. Our main aim is to enable the residents to have an hour of physical activity that they enjoy and achieve something they thought they couldn’t do.
