Starting Year 7 after a Coronavirus Pandemic

Updated: Jul 2

As the Summer holidays are approaching and many Year 6 pupils are in their last few weeks of Primary school, it is an exciting time to think ahead about their new school, whilst it is also normal to have worries about starting a new journey. So much is changing, and they are about to start a whole new set of subjects, meet new people, create new friendships, and take on new challenges.

The end of Year 6 has been a little different this year and some pupils may not have had the chance to go to an induction day or speak to pupils already at the school about their own experiences. Lincoln City Foundation will be reaching out to young people across Lincolnshire to share their top tips for pupils’ first days in Year 7 at a new school. This initiative is part of our Premier League Kicks programme and will be a largely advertised competition that young people can share their creative talent whilst helping new pupils get prepared for September.

Premier League Kicks is a programme introduced to work within the local community to inspire young people across the country. By engaging young people in a multitude of activities including sport, coaching, music and educational sessions, communities up and down the country have been transformed with an all-time high in sports participation.

Jonny Drabble, Youth Manager at Lincoln City Foundation expressed his passion for the Premier League Kicks Programme and how it has encouraged the development of young people over the years “Premier League Kicks has helped us engage with young people in the community at the LNER Stadium. The programme has already inspired many to develop positive, supportive relationships with one another as well as offering valuable experiences”.

Our partner schools have expressed their interest in this opportunity and are very grateful for any young people that would be willing to share their top tips for September to help new students feel better prepared for secondary school.

Parents have also been very positive about the project and are hoping that this will help their children feel better prepared for September.
