Lincoln City Foundation’s Down’s Syndrome Active football team travelled the 121 miles to Shrewsbury Town to play at the New Meadow against their DS Active peers.
The team were accompanied by parents, supporters and DS Active Sports Coach to play a five-a-side fixture at the stadium facility. Passing fans cheered and celebrated with both teams adding to the experience for the players. Lincoln City DS Active were victorious in their game and stayed to watch the league one fixture where Lincoln City FC drew against Shrewsbury Town FC on 21 January 2020.
The trip was set up as a series of away travel opportunities for the Down’s Syndrome players to showcase their improving techniques and build their confidence in a friendly competitive environment. It’s great to be able to keep the connection with the first team and travel to different stadiums as they do and play wearing a Lincoln City branded kit.
Parent Volunteer, Alan Willmony says,
“It was a really good game against their team. Great facilities and hospitality. Decent men’s match too. A long way but worth it!!”
Kirsten Parslow, Health and Inclusion Officer at Lincoln City Foundation said:
“Thank you to Shrewsbury Town in the Community, for hosting us and we are looking forward to offering a return fixture.
