Meet Amy Kay, Our New Football Development Officer
We are thrilled to be able to introduce to you our new Football Development Officer Amy Kay. Amy’s Role in the Foundation is to build on our already successful Football Development Programme, making it a fantastic experience for both the players and the parents.
We caught up with Amy to ask her a few burning questions ahead of our 2020/21 season start, so you can get to know her better.
Why did you want to work for the Lincoln City Foundation?
I have seen a lot of what the foundation does through my experience at the Lincoln Academy, and I was excited when I saw a job opportunity to be able to join the team and make a positive impact in people’s lives.
Can you tell us a little bit about your past work and experience?
I have been coaching football since I was sixteen and have worked through a lot of different teams and age groups from foundation to adult football. I have spent the past few years delivering sports in schools and working in the Lincoln City Academy, so most of my experience is in coaching and specifically football.
What excites you about your new role?
The role excites me as I am passionate about football development and being able to help provide initiatives which will boost football locally is a massive passion for me.
What are you most looking forward to implementing at LCF?
I am excited to bring in several initiatives such as a girl’s development centre, which I think will boost further the female game locally. I am also a big believer in football for all, so inclusive sessions and trying to ensure there is something for everyone will be my focal point.
How will you use your experience to do great things in the Football Development Programme?
I have a lot of experience in football, but I am always wanting to develop and learn more. I am hoping my experience will help me to provide and plan for high-quality programmes that aim to develop every individual we have attending our sessions.
We have to ask, what football team do you support?
Well, I am a Liverpool fan actually, so quite happy at the minute given this past season.
We know you’re a footballer at heart, so what position do you play?
I play all over, to be honest, I would say I prefer playing holding midfield but have spent the majority of my time playing Centre Back so I think I am just going to accept that I am a defender at some point
Do you prefer coaching or playing?
That’s a hard one, I think I love playing but I also love coaching, I now coach more than I play so I think I am slowly coming out of my playing days sadly.
What do you like about coaching?
I love being able to see players develop through sessions and feel like I have helped a player along their football journey, I remember the coaches I learnt a lot from so that’s always my aim.
Who is your footballing hero?
I am Liverpool fan so Stevie G for my era he literally carried the club by himself for so many seasons.
So, what’s next?
I am excited to get started! It has been a strange time to start a new role, but I am excited now we are planning for the return of our football development programmes and to see how far I push the programmes further!
