BTEC Students Excel through Expert Virtual Learning

The Education team at Lincoln City Foundation have remained committed to enhancing our BTEC students learning across the past few weeks. As virtual learning has continued, students studying the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport have participated in an online guest lecture from Steven Rands, who owns his own Sports Therapy business (SR Sports Therapy).

The students are currently studying a Sports Injury Management unit, so this was a great opportunity to add some employability content into the course and continue with our above and beyond virtual teaching. The students responded really well and enjoyed seeing sports injuries from another point of view, as well as learning about the pathway to becoming a Sports Therapist.

Current student Liam said: “I think guest lectures give us more first-hand experience of different roles in sport and how we can achieve them by learning from someone that has been through it all and has experience in the respective role.”

Another student, Ryan, added “Guest lectures are a good idea as we learn from other people’s careers and it’s very interesting to hear how they got to where they are today.”

Hanna Storey, Education Manager, summarised the positive impact that virtual learning has had on our students: “I am extremely proud of the students and what they are achieving. Initially the prospect of virtual learning was daunting for everyone, but the group has really got behind it and it is proving to be a valued addition to the course."

“The guest lecturer from Steven Rands is just the start of things to come to help us enhance the learning of the cohort, and I want thank all our students that are excelling in their topics and adapting so brilliantly in very difficult circumstances.”

Virtual teaching will continue until the end of this academic year at the Foundation, whilst we simultaneously plan new and exciting units for the students we will be welcoming in September.
