Barbi is a long standing volunteer in the Sincil Bank community in Lincoln having spent time volunteering in the area across the last nine years. For five of these years, Barbi has been connected to the Community Organising team at Lincoln City Foundation.
Barbi is treasurer of a local community group which organises a number of free events to bring together local people. A standout volunteering moment for Barbi was when the group organised an event called Sincil Bank by the Sea. Barbi describes how “it brought the seaside to the city in an area under a bridge that is not usually used except by the public going shopping. We even had real donkeys and free donkey rides, sand pits, messy play face painting and lots more. It was fantastic to see families having fun”
One of Barbi’s biggest passions is to improve the appearance of her community and she is also the volunteer Group Leader for the local River Care and Litter Pick Group. The group meets monthly to clear litter and waste from along the Sincil Bank River and local streets – the different they have made to the river bank area in particular is incredible.
Barbi enjoys volunteering as it keeps her active and gives “a sense of satisfaction that I am doing something worthwhile. I love meeting different people too”
Before getting involved in her local community Barbi also volunteered to run a Children’s Marching Band and supported a school breakfast club.
Thank you Barbi - your dedication to helping others and making a difference is inspiring!
