About The BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport Programme

BTEC National Diploma in Sport (equivalent to 3 A-Levels) is an exciting and dynamic course delivered under the BTEC Football & Education Programme by qualified teaching staff. This unique pathway has been put together to give learners the chance to develop their employment opportunities within professional sport. Based at Sincil Bank, home to Lincoln City FC, learners are able to study in our education suite, gain valuable industry work experience and compete in a regional football competition.


What is the Course Structure?

This programme is an alternative to college or 6th Form and is in partnership with North Kesteven Academy. It is a full-time education programme, where students will study towards a BTEC National Diploma in Sport qualification (equivalent to 3 A-Levels), if applicable resit GCSE Maths and English, complete a work placement as an assistant community coach and represent Imps in the Community in a regional 11aside league. Classes are delivered over a period of two-years and a mixture of theory and practical sessions and assessed through external exams, observed practical assessments, written reports, presentations, discussions, case studies and workbooks.

In terms of The BTEC National Diploma in Sport, you will study a variety of subjects throughout the year, including:

  • Professional Development in Sport

  • Application of Fitness Testing

  • Sports Leadership

  • Coaching for Performance

  • Practical Sports Performance

  • Plus many more…


What Added Value Will I Receive?

  • Route into higher education such as University upon completing the course.

  • Gain specific industry work experience and stand out compared to other sport students who are just completing a sport based qualification. 

  • Subsidised FA Level 1 Coaching Qualification (with the view to gain a further FA Level 2 Qualification dependant on proficiency at a coaching level).

  • You will have the opportunity to continue with your football development by competing in regional 11-aside league.

  • Opportunities to attend Lincoln City FC home football games


What Can I Progress To?

  • Sports related degree at a University.

  • Foundation degree in Coaching and Football Development with Imps in the Community.

  • Direct pathway to the sports industry, range of careers including; sports coach, PE teacher, fitness instructor, personal trainer, leisure centre manager, physiotherapist.

  • Full-time employment within the sport and leisure industry.

  • Potential for American scholarship schemes.


What Are The Entry Requirements?

  • Aged between 16 to 18 (option for Year 11 graduates)

  • Four A-C GCSEs including English and Maths or equivalent
